Midfidelity model verification for a point-absorbing wave energy converter with linear power take-off

In the preliminary design stage of a waveenergy converter (WEC), researchers need fast and reliablesimulation tools. High-fidelity numerical models are usu-ally employed to study wave-structure interaction, butthe computational cost is demanding. As an alternative,midfidelity can provide simulations in order ofreal time. this study, we operate Uppsala University’sWEC relatively mild sea state model it usingWEC-Sim. The verified based on OpenFOAMsimulations. To analyze ability midfidelitymodel capture WEC dynamics, investigate systemseparately with 1, 2, 3 degrees freedom. We examinethe contribution viscous phenomena, bothlinear weakly nonlinear solutions provided by WEC-Sim. Our results indicate that effects beneglected heave surge motion, but not for pitch.We also find WEC-Sim solutionsuccessfully agrees fluid dynam-ics, whereas linear solution could suggest misleadingresults.
